The TEDC 2022 Annual Conference Was a Powerful Event and a Great Learning Experience

Here’s a conference overview and a letter from the Texas Economic Development Council’s 2022 board chair.

The TEDC 2022 Annual Conference was held October 19-21 on the Riverwalk in San Antonio.  The three-day event saw a number of industry experts addressing the membership about important economic development topics.

A key part of the conference was discussion panels that featured economic development professionals who shared their knowledge and experience.  It was a great opportunity to learn, network and engage with our peers in economic development.

Presentations at the TEDC 2022 Annual Conference

Presentations this year included ideas from government program officers and industry experts for communities looking to develop a broadband strategy for infrastructure funding.  Helpful information was given on federal and state funding opportunities for communities and companies.

The TGB Group was a proud sponsor of the golf tournament.  Being a sponsor is a wonderful way to support the Texas Economic Development Council in its mission and year-round activities.  Sponsorship of events helps the council to:

    • Meet the needs of economic developers in Texas
    • Host quality events, such as the annual conference
    • Serve as an advocate at the Texas Capitol

From Wesley Burnett, CEcD, Nacero & TEDC board chair

“It has been another wonderful year to be a part of an organization that continues to grow in stature and influence – none of which could be accomplished without the strong support of our members – undoubtedly our greatest resource. Our membership continues to grow each year. In fact, membership in the TEDC is at an all-time high.

“Although these past couple of years have been unpredictable at times and definitely challenging for many, having the support and commitment of economic development professionals like you makes all the difference in the world.

“I have been extremely honored to be a part of the TEDC leadership team. The TEDC has a long legacy of providing best practices for economic development professionals through education, advocacy, resources and networking.”

    Wesley Burnett, CEcD
    Director-community relations, Nacero

    Network with like-minded professionals

Throughout the three-day TEDC 2022 Mid-Year Conference, there will be plenty of opportunities to network and connect with the “movers and shakers” who make Texas’ business run.

Being able to meet and get to know other like-minded professionals is in itself enough reason to attend the conference.  Based on our experience at past conferences, many of the key players in Texas business, economics and transportation will be there.

    All this and great golf!

Education and networking are important, but making the conference even better is a fun golf tournament scheduled for June 22 at the NorthShore Country Club Golf Course in Portland, Texas.  If you play, you can get involved.  TGB Group is one of the tourney’s sponsors.

    Where it’s happening

The TEDC 2022 Mid-Year Conference will be held at the Omni Hotel, 900 Shoreline Blvd., Corpus Christi, Texas.  Registration closes on June 15.  You can register at the Omni Hotel link above.

  • TGB Group Attends Logistics Development Forum

TGB Group Attends Logistics Development Forum

Event focused on site-selection and supply chain priorities

Our president, Mike Murphy, recently attended a Logistics Development Forum event in Vail, Colo., that focused on helping leaders in the trade and economic development industries learn more about site selection and supply chain management priorities.

TGB Group also was a sponsor for the golf event connected to the forum, which was held August 5-7 at Sonnenalp Hotel in Vail.

Highlights of the Logistics Development Forum

One of the key functions of the 2019 Logistics Development Forum was to give economic developers and site consultants the opportunity to share information on the many elements involved in determining the optimal location for manufacturing distribution centers and warehouse operations.

Attendees participated in individual meetings, took part in educational sessions and built valuable networking relationships with industry peers.

On the Logistics Development Forum Program Overview page for the upcoming 2020 edition of the event, advantages of attending this forum are explained and include:

    • The chance to hear industry experts speak about logistics-intensive projects
    • Special sessions focused on the role of logistics in deciding on the location of a new site
    • It’s the only conference that deals with the importance of the site-selection process and supply chain
    • An excellent way to forge partnerships and build relationships with other industry professionals

Mike and the rest of the TGB Group team reserve time throughout every year to attend and sponsor these types of events.  Meeting and talking with experts in our industry helps us to keep abreast of the latest developments and advanced techniques, which in turn allows us to continue to deliver superior results to our clients.

    Other conferences on our schedule

In addition to the Logistics Development Forum, our representatives also will attend the following 2019 conferences:

SWARS (Southwest Association of Rail Shippers) in Phoenix

AREMA (American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association) in Minneapolis, Minn.

TEDC Annual Conference (Texas Economic Development Council) in San Antonio, Texas

  • Jacksboro EDA Grant

    Jacksboro EDA Grant

Grant to help fund Jacksboro Business Park

Our Business Development Manager, Jake Cooper, is working with the Jacksboro Economic Development Corporation to apply for an Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant. Once secured, the Jacksboro EDA grant will be used for the engineering and construction of roads, waterlines and sewer for phase one of the Jacksboro Business Park project.

This industrial park will be suitable for a variety of business needs such as light industrial, manufacturing and office complexes. With a population of approximately 4,500, Jacksboro, Texas, looks to tourism, recreation and land development projects to promote opportunities for business and to foster the creation and retention of new jobs. With assistance from the Jacksboro EDA grant, the business park has the potential of creating some 100 new jobs for the community.

More about the Jacksboro EDA grant

EDA is a federal resource that helps cities and counties, based on their needs, through specific grants. The program we are applying for is the EDA Public Works Grant, and it is specifically for the engineering and construction of the roads, waterlines and sewer for this project. The Jacksboro Economic Development Corporation and the City of Jacksboro will maintain ownership and right-of-ways for these items throughout the life of the project.

    About the EDA
