We’re Helping to Make a Bright Meals on Wheels Christmas

Helping our area homebound seniors during the holidays

A Meals on Wheels Christmas is a time to pay special attention to the needs of our older neighbors and do a little something special for them.  TGB Group has worked for years with local service agency Meals on Wheels Montgomery County (Texas) to make life a little easier for homebound seniors.  The organization provides meals as well as transportation and other important services.

At the moment, we’re busy helping with the Meals on Wheels Christmas effort.  We’ve been buying a lot of gifts and helping to assemble packages that will be given to those whom Meals on Wheels serves.  It doesn’t take a lot, really, but the rewards are great.

Items we’ve been getting together include hot chocolate packets and mugs; shampoo and conditioner; stationery, pens and stamps; puzzles; notepads; and other goodies that will be part of some very special gift bags.

What a Meals on Wheels Christmas really means

    meals on wheels christmas 2021

Many seniors in our area don’t have access to the resources we tend to take for granted.  Meals are one of these resources as some who are up in age no longer can cook and manage their daily meals.

Meals on Wheels fills the gap by ensuring that local homebound seniors are able to get the nutrition they need on a daily basis.  The organization relies on a long list of volunteers, which we’re proud to say includes The TGB Group.

Home-delivered food and transportation to stores and doctor appointments are services that are important any time of year.  They’re especially important during the holidays.  A Meals on Wheels Christmas means some of our neighbors who might be in need will have those needs fulfilled at a time of year that’s all about giving and caring.

You can learn more about the Mission of Meals on Wheels and find out how you can give a little of your time to those who have given our world so much.

The Spring Award Program (SAP) in June 2020 selected the TGB Group for the 2020 Best of Spring Award in the Civil Engineering and Consulting Company category.

This is our second year in a row to receive the award, which showcases companies that have demonstrated success in their marketing efforts within the local Spring, Texas, community and among other nominees in their business categories.

About the 2020 Best of Spring Award, the SAP says, “These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and our community. These exceptional companies help make the Spring area a great place to live, work and play.”

The Program committee considers a variety of data to select the companies they recognize with an annual Best of Spring Award.  Some of the data is collected internally while other data is received from third parties.

The entire TGB team is very proud to receive the 2020 Best of Spring Award.  We enjoy being honored for all the hard work we’ve put in to growing our business.  Even more important than awards, however, is the fact that our efforts in building our company result in an ever-increasing quality of service to our clients.

  • Why Community Responsibility Is So Important | Doing Our Part

Why Community Responsibility Is So Important | Doing Our Part

Here are some of the ways we’re giving back

From helping to feed the hungry to raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Hospital to supporting scholarship programs for deserving students, a big part of the TGB Group culture is acting with compassion to build support for many different causes in and around our community. We think of it as our community responsibility.

Why we take community responsibility seriously

Helping to making a difference in whatever ways we can is one of our missions. Because we care about our communities and the people who live in them, giving back is important to us. Here are some of our current areas of focus.

    Meals on Wheels, Montgomery County

community responsibility with Meals on Wheels

TGB Group donates funds to Montgomery County Meals on Wheels and is constructing Turkey Day treat bags for seniors. The programs operated through Meals on Wheels are vital to our older neighbors. A meal delivered by a friendly face means that seniors are not only getting the nutrition they need but a social visit they require to maintain a healthy balance in their lives.

    Harvesters Community Food Network

    community responsibility with Harversters

Another part of our community responsibility is donating to the Harvesters Community Food Network, which provides kids in our area with healthy groceries.

Montgomery County Association of Business Women Foundation (MCABW)

Through donations, MCABW focuses on giving back to the community by awarding scholarships to high school seniors and supporting other local causes.

Southwest Association of Rail Shippers (SWARS)

TGB Group does a lot of work in the rail industry, so we make it a point to support the SWARS scholarship fund.

    St. Jude Children’s Hospital

    community responsibility with St. Jude

An exciting part of fulfilling our community responsibility has been supporting the St. Jude Humana Rock N Roll Series fundraising event in San Antonio. It’s a 5K run happening on December 7, 2019 to raise money for pediatric cancer research.

    West Texas Food Bank

community responsibility with West Texas Food Bank

The final organization we support that we want to mention here is the West Texas Food Bank. This group is committed to serving the needs of children, families and seniors who struggle with hunger.

All of us have the opportunity to give back a little – or a lot – to local and national causes that are important to us. It’s community responsibility that makes our world a better place.

  • Industrial Park Expansion Makes News in Big Spring

Industrial Park Expansion Makes News in Big Spring

TGB Group provided engineering design and construction management for the project

TGB Group is in the news again – this time in Big Spring, Texas, where the company is providing design and construction management services for a major rail industrial park expansion.

The project, launched by the Big Spring Economic Development Corporation (BSEDC), is big news in this city of approximately 27,000. A July 9, 2018 article on NewsWest9.com based in Midland, Texas, pointed out that the “[railroad] track is the road to expansion for the City of Big Spring.”

The McMahon-Wrinkle Air and Industrial Park expansion will involve laying an additional 8,000 feet of track and extending the main line track to allow access to properties near the park.

In a video and accompanying news article, BSEDC Executive Director Terry Wegman said, “This is a continuation of almost six miles of track that we’ve done over the last several years to accommodate existing business and help attract new business to the airport.”

Video of Big Spring Railroad Project

Services TGB has been responsible for during the expansion at the former WWII airfield include topographic survey and construction staking; complete engineering design; preparation of necessary forms to obtain FAA, air park and railroad approvals; and construction administration. You can read more about this project in an article we wrote in October of last year.

TGB President Mike Murphy, who is overseeing his company’s work on the project, told NewsWest9, “The idea is to bring more customers to Big Spring and make them feel comfortable that we have everybody in the room they need to build their project.”

This is just one of many TGB projects focused on enhancing the economic climate in cities throughout Texas and in nearby states.

TGB Reps Attend Texas Economic Development Council Conference

The Mid-Year Event in Galveston Was a Huge Success

Representatives from TGB Group attended the Texas Economic Development Council conference last week at the Moody Gardens Hotel Conference Center in Galveston, Texas.

Before the conference started on Wednesday, June 13, TGB sponsored the annual golf tournament at the Moody Gardens Golf Club. We had a great time with five groups of golfers attending.

    Paddle Boat
Sunset cruise and bingo trip aboard the Moody Gardens paddle boat.

In addition to sponsoring the golf tournament, we also supported the TEDC PAC (Political Action Committee) while networking with other TEDC members on the Moody Gardens paddle boat sunset cruise and bingo trip. There were about 100 members on the cruise, and everyone enjoyed the awesome experience, as is the norm at any event connected to a Texas Economic Development Council conference.

    TEDC PAC efforts

The Political Action Committee serves as the political arm of the council, the professional association for economic developers within the state of Texas. Created in 1997, the TEDC PAC supports the interests of 850-plus economic developers doing work in Texas. A subcommittee of the TEDC Legislative Committee with representation from across Texas governs TEDC PAC activities.

The bipartisan committee collects and distributes funds to Texas political candidates and those already in office who wish to build and sustain a robust, competitive environment for economic development activities throughout the state. Contributions are made through collaborative decision-making, with plenty of opportunity for TEDC leadership and members to offer their input. TEDC PAC members can participate in fundraisers and help relay contributions to local representatives.

You can check out a recap of our involvement in the TEDC conference last February in San Antonio, Texas.

We look forward to attending the next Texas Economic Development Council conference in Fort Worth, Texas, in October 2018!

  • News on Our Big Spring McMahon Industrial Park Transload Yard Project

News on Our Big Spring McMahon Industrial Park Transload Yard Project

Where we are in this multifaceted project

TGB Group has completed surveying and engineering work for the Big Spring Mahon-Wrinkle Industrial Park Transload Yard, a project that began earlier in the year.

We are currently working on the construction of the transload yard with Big Spring Economic Development Corporation. Railworks Track Systems and DIFFCO, LLC were the selected rail and civil contractors for the project for which TGB Group is providing construction management services. So far, we have completed the ditching and surfacing and are beginning to fill the ditches with riprap. TGB team member Logan Ortiz P.E. is performing construction observation duties for the project. He is on-site at the industrial park every week, ensuring that the contractors build everything according to client-approved engineering documents.

    Riprap

Riprap is essentially chunks of rock approximately one to two feet in diameter that are used to prevent erosion. Rocks typically used as riprap include granite, limestone and sometimes concrete. Riprap is particularly important to fill ditches near railroad yards to prevent water from eventually eroding the dirt beneath the track. If erosion is allowed to happen, a void will develop within the dirt under the track. As trains pass over this void, the railroad track will bend and “pump” into the dirt. The only way to fix this void is to have a railroad contractor come and fill in the void, which is an expensive and time-consuming process.

    Drone Footage

Jake Cooper, TGB’s business development manager, took some drone footage of the construction in the transload yard. The first video is footage for the entire project from the south end, to the north end.

This second video is closer footage from about the middle, to the north end.
