The Topeka, Kansas, facility will house products & machinery

TGB Group is working with Kansas-based Bettis Asphalt and Construction to build a 30,000-square-foot equipment storage building on their existing 25-acre industrial lot on the north side of Topeka.  The facility will be used to store milling machines and asphalt equipment.

Scope of the equipment storage building

We provided both the topographic and boundary surveys for the project. The new construction required that the property be replatted, so we also provided a preliminary and final replat to accommodate the new building.

Because this new equipment storage building is being built at the back of the lot, it required a city 6-inch watermain extension and an 8-inch sewermain extension to serve the facility and provide fire protection.  These additions were separate city projects, each requiring individual plans to be approved by the City of Topeka and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE).

TGB tasks within this project

Our team designed the equipment storage building site/civil plan that included concrete aprons, gravel parking grading, a new storm sewer and analysis of the existing retention pond to provide updated storm calculations.  Additionally our work involved updating the stormwater management plan and maintenance for the site, all of which required city approval.  Other items in the civil design included a landscape plan and a stormwater pollution prevention plan for KDHE and the city.

TGB Group will provide all construction staking throughout the project along with as-constructed drawings when finished.

This equipment storage building project was a fast-track coordinated effort with the architect, the MEP engineer, the structural engineer, TGB Group, and Bettis Asphalt.  All designs were complete and approved by the City of Topeka in under 90 days, and construction work has begun. Completion of the project is expected in the summer of 2018.
