Project focuses on two miles of track and other components
TGB Group has been hired by the Big Spring Economic Development Corporation (BSEDC) to assist in the rehabilitation of two miles of the Big Spring Railroad’s main line. Our team began survey work of the railroad track and right-of-way in January, and we will soon begin drainage redesign and track realignment for the first two miles of the railroad’s main line.
TGB Group’s specific expertise was needed in this project to achieve the necessary improvements that will allow Big Spring Railroad to handle the significant increase in rail traffic it expects during the rest of this year and beyond.
Project plans we’ll undertake include building several drainage enhancements to carry water away from the roadbed and re-establish drainage patterns that have long since washed away. Without a proper drainage system, many other aspects of the railroad’s main line project would be negatively affected.
Our engineers also will be evaluating curves and turnouts along the track to make improvements to reduce overall maintenance costs for the railroad.
Bidding process management
Once the design improvements are approved by the BSEDC and the railroad, TGB will manage the bidding process with qualified rail and civil contractors. Our team will ensure all bids meet the same requirements and that references are contacted for each supplier. We’ll use the feedback to help the BSEDC executive director select contractors that best suit the needs of the project.
TGB personnel will also be on hand during construction to oversee the project, making sure it is built according to our client’s specifications. This is a service we’re often asked to provide because of our reputation for unparalleled project management expertise.
